Great, varied tour with some "crisp" climbs through the heart of the Ybbstal Alps.
After the start in Waidhofen, the route initially heads upstream through the Ybbstal valley.
From Hollenstein, the route leads through the wild and romantic Sandgraben, 10km uphill to Promau. The ascent is divided into a very leisurely lower section (along the stream) and a more challenging upper section. From the Promau there is a wonderful view of the Voralpe and the Hochkar.
After a narrow and winding descent, you reach the well-known Mendlingtal valley. Another short "stitch" follows before you reach Lassing and roll out of the valley past the turn-off to the Hochkar (see tour description) to Göstling.
From Göstling, follow the Ybbs again to St. Georgen am Reith. Turn sharp right here and the approx. 3 km long ascent to the "Große Kripp" begins.
This is followed by a short, steep descent and another short ascent to the "Kleine Kripp", before the loop through the Prollingtal and Ybbsitz comes to a leisurely end on the way back to Waidhofen.
- safety instructions CAUTION: Be careful when descending from Promau! Narrow road, partly uneven, tight curves without protection before the creek! Also shortly afterward in the Mendlingtal area, please absolutely pay attention to visitor traffic with cars and parked vehicles.Caution at the junction onto the main road in Lassing: high speed after steep descent! Also caution when entering Ybbsitz: fast descent, village start curvy with high speed.
